As some of you already know, I am going to Poland in the spring to play football for the Warsaw Eagles in the Polish American Football Association (PAFA). This recent situation has put a major focus on my training and it is awesome. I know exactly what I am training for, beyond general fitness and the desire to be a badass manimal. Some of you have asked about my training and certain things I am doing to prepare for my upcoming season. I will be writing and posting video much more extensively about my current training and experiences, so please ask questions and post comments about why or how I am doing certain things or how this can help you, or anything else you need. Please have an incredible holiday and a very Merry Christmas.

P.S. I have some cool stuff coming, so stay tuned

Todays training

1. Power snatch + overhead squat
2. Deadlift
3. Hip thrust (bridge)
4. Reverse hypers
5. Swings

This is obviously intensive on the lower back, glutes and hamstrings. Developing this area to superhuman levels is something that any athlete will benefit from. Baby got back.

Will be fun having you around in the season. These hip thrusts seem pretty easy to do at home, while being great idea to streghten lower back.

Matt go and smash those asses on the playground :)
I hope you will also record matches and post it on the youtube. I've searched for you on the youtube but haven't found anything about football.

Szymon

the hip thrusters you can do anywhere. Have your girlfriend stand on your hips and lift her up. Squeeze your glutes as tight as possible and pause at the top. Do not lift with the low back, keep it tight and lift with glutes.

I will record as much as possible. My last college season was in 1998. YouTube did not exist yet, nor did i record anything. I do not even know if the college has those tapes anymore.

Matt, it would be good if you could do a short piece on how you train during the actual season. I find a lot is put into getting strong pre-season, but not a lot on how much work in the weights room you should do during. I train young athletes in Rugby over in the UK. I want them to be strong during their season but very conscouis of over-training. Should you continue squats, cleans etc at a lower volume or take them out all together?

Thanks
